Porsche Parade Planning, President’s Meeting, and DE at VIR
The second quarter started with the Zone 2 Rep participating in the Porsche Parade Spring Planning Meeting at the Kalahari Resort. The PCA Parade staff came well prepared and it was clear the key decisions and planning were complete and the event was ready.
Parade in the Poconos was a huge success! The credit for running the largest Parade ever is wide spread but the efforts of the volunteers from the local Region can’t be over stated. The Pocono Region (https://poc.pca.org) is small but mighty and they stepped up in a big way to support Porsche Parade. Thanks to the local team led by Margie and Jim Becker!
The Zone 2 President’s Meeting was held on April 9th in Winchester, Virginia. All ten of the Region President’s were in attendance. National was represented by Aaron Ambrosino, National Vice President. The wide ranging topics focused on Social Media with an on-line presentation by Maggie Goodman, National Social Media Chair.
The Zone 2 DE at VIR was held on the first weekend of Porsche Parade. Because of conflicts with the PCA Club Race schedule the VIR Club Race was moved from the traditional June date into March. This change put the Zone 2 DE at VIR into the June weekend. Perhaps it was this change, the conflict with a nearby Parade, the struggling economy, the price of gas or competition from “For Profit” track organizations but the event was a financial disaster for the Zone. The financial loss will impact decisions to hold both VIR track events in the future and support other Zone events – specifically covering costs for travel to President’s meetings.
Events around the Zone continue to be conducted safely and in conjunction with PCA minimum standards. All of the Regions are getting busier with events ranging from the very popular Porsche Swap meet run by Central PA, to new Gimmick Rallies, tech sessions, track events and tours.
Major events for the third quarter include a Porscheplatz at the IMSA race at VIR on August 26-28th.
