2022 Q1

My First Quarter as Zone 2 Representative

Zone 2 Representative Phil Grandfield

The first quarter of 2021 is my first quarter as the PCA Zone 2 Representative. The turnover from Rose Ann Novotnak was very thorough, smooth, and comprehensive. She has explained the role and turned over all the necessary files. Thank you Rose Ann and enjoy your next PCA assignment as the Parade Art Show Chair.

The quarter started with some cancelled in-person events and several informative Zoom meetings. The quarter also included my first in-person Region visit:

  • Attended first monthly PCA National Meeting – January 12th
  • Zone 2 Club Race planning meeting #1 – January 17th
  • New President’s Zoom meeting – January 18th
  • Parade Registration informational Zoom meeting – January 19th
  • The Keystone Region holiday party planned for January 22nd was postponed due to weather.
  • PCA Finances Region Focus – February 8th
  • Winter meeting planned in Jacksonville Florida for February 4-5th was changed to a Zoom meeting. February 4th was training for new Zone Reps. February 5th included updates of the PCA long range strategy, finances, briefing on the pending drone policy and other informational discussions.
  • PCA Membership Region Focus – February 22nd
  • Attended Chesapeake Region tech session and luncheon at the Guinness Brewery – February 26th.
  • Hosted a meeting on March 7th with representatives from Track Rabbit. Registrars from First Settlers Region and Potomac Region participated. Regions may choose to use Track Rabbit as an alternative to Motorsportreg.com
  • Attended the March PCA National meeting as the Zone Rep lead for discussion.
  • Hosted the Club Race at VIR as a Co-Chair. The March 25-27th dates were a change from previous years driven by the changed dates of the Zone 1 race at Watkins Glen. The Zone 2 DE normally held on these March dates were moved to June 10-12. Feedback from the racers is the earlier date preferable to the hotter weather in June.

Participated in the spring planning for Porsche Parade on March 29-30th at the Kalahari Resort. The first Zone 2 President’s meeting is planned early in 2022Q2 on April 9th in Winchester, Virginia.

Thanks to Jennifer Coston for her great support at the Zone 2 Treasurer for the past few years! She successfully turned over her duties and the Zone 2 financial records to Joe Raya. Welcome aboard to Joe, a relatively new and very enthusiastic PCA member from the Shenandoah Region.

Subsidies approved this quarter:

  • Chesapeake Region New Member Party
  • Pocono Region Charity
  • Potomac Region New Member Party

I’m looking forward to attending major events around the Zone in 2022 and having the opportunity to meet more members. Parade in the Poconos is sure to be a major Zone 2 event.

Respectfully submitted,
Phil Grandfield

Zone 2 : Club Race at Virginia International Raceway, Alton. VA.
